It is impossible not to appreciate Flem, the family winery from the Jerusalem mountains.

Golan Flem, the older brother, signed on to winemaking.

Gilad his brother on management and marketing.

In the background are their father, Israel Flem, a veteran winemaker in Israel and one who worked for years at Carmel Winery (when it was still called Carmel Mizrahi).

Golan Flem, who was professionally educated in Italy, is true to the spirit of the old world and makes wines that are first and foremost committed to trout and variety.

Even in its more powerful and heavier wines there is always a degree of restraint and moderation, alongside a clear place for fruit.

In the current tasting, four wines from the last vintage - 2021, and three more, which have aged longer.

One rose, two white and four red, three of which are taller and more expensive.

All the labels are already familiar to the public, including "Camellia", a tall and less old white in the Flem repertoire, dedicated to the mother of the family - Kami.

The novelty in the current tasting is the "White Label" wine, a new, elegant and excellent blend, based on Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, different in style from the classic Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve wine and from

What the reviewer said:

- WL "White Label", is a kind of experimental wine by winemaker Gilad Flem.

One in which it deviates from the familiar labels over the years of the winery and produces what in other places is commonly called "the winemaker's choice", without detailing its contents on the label, completely white, in a kind of homage to the Beatles' "white album" and more.

The blend, along with 50% of the Bordeaux Lucy blend grapes, also includes a second half with a Mediterranean variety - Syrah.

Body, fruit, sourness, considerable seasoning, velvety, restraint and elegance combine here to create a complex and charming wine that has a balance of balances and a high gastronomic factor.

Value for money:

3.5 / 5 (good. Expensive but excellent).

In 13 words:

a balanced and truly exceptional food wine.

Hopefully it won’t stay disposable.
