OUR SELECTION - While remaining faithful to jazz, some musicians have been able to develop the genre. Here are some artists to hear this summer.

Thomas de Pourquery and Supersonic

This singer and saxophonist is one of those who contributed the most to democratize jazz by exposing it to all the winds.

An open-mindedness that suits this virtuoso well.

Here he is with his cult band, Supersonic, which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Six exceptional musicians open to trance and experimentation, above which hovers the cosmic freedom of Sun Ra, an impeccable mastermind.

Émile Parisien Sextet

Musician from the age of 8, Émile Parisien was honored with the Victoires du Jazz of 2014. This alto and soprano saxophonist strives to explore the tradition and history of jazz while opening up new perspectives to the genre.

We owe him fruitful collaborations with personalities from

From Daniel Humair to Jeff Mills via Michel Portal, Émile Parisien is an adventurer to be reckoned with.

Her new sextet, called "Louise", allows her to perform alongside the French Roberto Negro and Manu Codjia and the Americans Joe Martin, Nasheet Waits and Theo Croker.

Louise is a tribute to Spider, a series of existentialist sculptures by Louise Bourgeois.

July 15 at the Nice Jazz Festival and July 29 at Jazz in Marciac.

Samy Thiébault

Another of the most original saxophonists.

After Caribbean Stories and Symphonic Tales, the Frenchman closes his trilogy with his new album Awé!.

A project that carries within it the crossbreeding between Creole and jazz traditions, embodied by a creative and cheeky musician at the same time.

Anne Paceo

Her seventh album SHAMANES made her one of the leading personalities of the year.

Active for about twenty seasons, this trained percussionist has forged a very unique style.

Charlie Haden had made her one of his proteges.

A born experimenter, a gifted composer, she knew how to bring to fruition the heritage of dozens of collaborations carried out in the four corners of the world.

Cécile McLorin Salvant

The Franco-American singer, winner of three Grammy Awards, is one of the greatest performers of the moment.

Nourished by jazz but also blues, folk and musicals, this young woman has just released a remarkable album on the American label Nonesuch.

Enough to propel her to new heights, in particular through her cover of the very trendy Kate Bush, but also with her rereadings inspired by Sting, Gregory Porter and Kurt Weill.

Tigran Hamasyan

It took less than fifteen years for this Armenian to rise among the most interesting pianists of the time.

By interweaving the rhythms of rock, the chords of Monk and Corea with traditional Armenian songs, this young man has already made a mark, both in Europe and in the United States.

Here he is at the head of a new trio, this time with Matt Brewer and Damion Reid for a reinterpretation of American standards, in the wake of his excellent album StandArt, released by Nonesuch.

July 18 in Juan-les-Pins.

Samara Joy

Only 24 years old, this New Yorker stands out as the worthy heiress of the greatest female voices in jazz.

Winner of the prestigious Sarah Vaughan Prize in 2019, she is a discovery of the season.
