Electronic insect killers are controversial.
Now a retail chain has to recall a device - it can be dangerous for consumers themselves.
NRW – Whether fly, glue, power grid traps or electric insect killers – annoying insects can often be driven away without any problems.
With an electronic insect killer, heavy artillery can be deployed against particularly stubborn, uninvited visitors.
But with a device, extreme caution is required, after all, it can be a nasty, because very painful awakening for the consumer himself.
The insect killer is not affected by a recall without reason, as reported by the

Recall: Electronic insect killers from Kaufland can be dangerous for consumers
The Kaufland company is recalling an insect killer and warning its customers against using the electrical device, reports RUHR24.
Because "due to a manufacturing defect" "the risk of electric shock cannot be completely ruled out".
The company is therefore asking its customers to stop using this insect killer, which has only recently become available, and to disconnect it from the power supply:

Recall: Electronic insect killers banned outdoors and highly controversial
When it comes to “mosquito victims” that are plagued by the annoying little creatures every year, the exterminators are supposed to attract the flying insects with a light source and kill them with an electrified metal net.
However, since the device can also attract and destroy other, ecologically useful animals, its use is quite controversial.

After all, there are certainly less brutal and, thanks to various home remedies, such as coffee grounds, simpler protective measures against mosquitoes.
A few years ago, the
German Nature Conservation Union
(Nabu) initiated an e-mail protest campaign against the insect grills with 1,330 participants, as a result of which five companies took the devices out of their range.
The unwelcome mosquitoes are not only attracted by light, but also by the water vapor and carbon dioxide in the air breathed by mammals.
Since electronic insect killers often only work on small animals, larger insects can succumb to a long death throes from burnt wings.
It can therefore not be prevented that beneficial insects and protected species are sometimes killed in an agonizing manner.
Recall: According to the Federal Species Protection Ordinance, insect killers are prohibited outdoors
Outdoors, the electronic insect killers are even forbidden because of their ecological damage according to paragraph four of the Federal Species Protection Ordinance.
It states that the "luring, catching and killing of specially protected animals with artificial light sources or electronic devices" is prohibited by law.
Kaufland explains to its customers that the insect killers affected by the recall “can be returned to all Kaufland branches”.
The purchase price will "of course be refunded, even without presenting the receipt."

The

page also attested to Kaufland correct procedure.
After all, the retail chain would have informed its end customers about the danger "extensively and unreservedly on various information levels".
This ensures "that as many end users as possible receive this information."
