The corona commissioner reported on the sixth and quietest wave spreading in the country, as well as a new variant identified in India • on a vaccine aged six months to 5:

Corona's commissioner, Professor Salman Zarqa, yesterday (Tuesday) gave a briefing on the sixth wave of the corona to the media in the country, as part of a report on a new variant of the omicron identified in India and more contagious than the initial omicron virus.

"It is still unclear if it is more dangerous or contagious than the variant found in the country (the BA5 of the Omicron), but we will ask everyone who comes from Africa and India to do corona tests whether they feel sick or not," Zarqa said in the briefing.

Beyond the new variant, Zarqa noted that in light of the continuing increase in the number of people hospitalized, he would recommend that the epidemiological management team return the obligation to wear masks in closed spaces.

He said he would bring this issue up for discussion in the coming days to make a decision on the issue.

Zarqa referred to the Feast of Sacrifice that took place at the end and recommended to all celebrants who plan to have meals with older parents, to do antigen tests beforehand so as not to infect or expose the parents to the corona virus.

The corona commissioner also referred to the decision to vaccinate children under the age of 5: "Currently there are no vaccines in Israel for six months to 5 and the state is preparing to buy them following the decision to vaccinate toddlers. I assume there will be such a vaccine in the coming weeks.

He also called on Israelis flying abroad to wear masks on flights and not wait for the Ministry of Health's instructions on the matter.
