(ANSA) - LA MADDALENA, 07 JUL - Two young Swedish directors arrived, over 40 years ago, in Italy, on the set of "Christ has stopped in Eboli".

This is followed by the filming and processing phases of the famous 1979 film directed by Francesco Rosi, starring Gian Maria Volonté.

The result of this experience is the documentary "Rosi about Eboli".

It will be presented as a national preview at "The actor's suitcase", a scheduled festival in the north of Sardinia from 26 to 30 July on the island of La Maddalena.

An extraordinary document, unpublished for Italy, shot in Lucania, by Swedish directors Björn Blixt and Peter Englesson.

It also contains a small gem: an interview with Volonté, protagonist of the film and to which the event, now in its 19th edition, is dedicated.

It will be presented on July 26th at 9pm at the IColmi Fortress and on July 28th at 11am at the ex Magazzini Ilva in Cala Gavetta by Björn Blixt and the researcher Giulia Longo.

There will be Giovanna Gravina Volonté, director of the festival, and Domenico DeGaetano, director of the National Cinema Museum of Turin, where the work is kept.

"I discovered the existence of the documentary thanks to the recommendation of Giulia Longo - tells ANSA Giovanna Gravina - this 'discovery' represents a document with an emotional and historical value, a perfect opportunity to give light to a relevant fragment of our cinematographic memory".

For Björn Blixt "it was an unthinkable privilege: I was a young Swede headed to Rome with a scholarship".

Then the director lets himself go to the memories: "Rosi was a very man and he directed his set with authority but also in an extremely human way. Gian Maria Volonté had a magnificent voice tone and gave off a special charm: he went around everywhere with his Borsalino hat, and everything his particular charisma radiated around him ".

In the autumn, the Turin Museum will present a special screening of the documentary, as part of a tribute dedicated to Rosi on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth: a three-day screening at the Cinema Massimo and an exhibition at the Mole Antonelliana curated together with his daughter Carolina Rosi, from 15 November , the director's birthday, to 23 February.
