American actor James Caan, interpreter of Santino "Sonny", eldest son of Vito Corleone in the "Godfather", died Wednesday at the age of 82, announced his manager.

Known worldwide for his role in the saga of Francis Ford Coppola, James Caan had also played under the direction of the American director in "The People of the Rain" in 1968. In the 1990s, he interpreted the role of Paul Sheldon, the writer held captive by a psychopathic fan in Rob Reiner's film "Misery", an adaptation of Stephen King's thriller.
