(ANSA) - LONDON, 07 JUL - Boris Johnson has formally announced his resignation as leader of the British Conservative Party, a majority force in Parliament, in a speech to the nation.
The prime minister - ultimately overwhelmed by the backlash of the latest scandals and a flurry of resignations within his team - intends to remain head of the government until the election of a successor at the helm of the Tories scheduled for October, seen in times imposed by the summer parliamentary recess that begins in two weeks.
