If your carrots grow splendidly at the top but only have a small root at the bottom, it could be because of these errors.

Munich – Fresh, crunchy and healthy: carrots are among the most popular types of vegetables.

But if the harvest fails or you can't harvest any beets at all, you should risk a closer look at the earth.

Since, once the carrots have been pulled out of the ground, you cannot simply put them back in to continue growing, special attention is required.

Mistake #1: You're using the wrong ground

Like most vegetables, carrots grow best in fine, light, sandy-loamy soil.

Smaller and larger stones, on the other hand, are the biggest enemies of carrots, as they hinder the root from growing.

The pH of the soil should be between 5.8 and 7.0.

Mistake number 2: You fertilize and water too little

The soil must be constantly moist, especially before germination!

As with cucumbers, water!

Since carrots are also among the medium to heavy feeders, it is best to fertilize them at the beginning of sowing.

With a little compost you create the ideal conditions for a rich harvest.

Mistake number 3: Wrong sowing

If you prefer carrots indoors in February or March, you can put them outside after the ice saints.

But from the summer, the vegetables can also be sown directly into the ground.

The small variety Chantenay and the classic Nantaise are particularly suitable for this.

The former takes a maximum of two months to be ready for harvest.

Patience is also required when sowing: it is not uncommon for the carrots to germinate after 21 days with daily watering.

Then the beets need another six to eight weeks, depending on the variety, until they are ripe.
