Olivier Rousteing's "pregnant" dresses for Jean Paul Gaultier, an ode to the female body

Wednesday, July 6 took place the highly anticipated Jean Paul Gaultier fashion show by Olivier Rousteing. A tribute collection to the enfant terrible of fashion, dotted with spectacular creations.

Jean Paul Gaultier has always had at heart, during his parades, to show the bodies in all their diversity.

This Wednesday, July 6, the fall winter 2022-2023 haute couture presentation of his label, designed by Olivier Rousteing, was no exception to the rule.

After Chitose Abe and Glen Martens, the young designer of Balmain was, in fact, invited to take over the reins of the Parisian house, the time of a season: a tradition instituted by Jean Paul Gaultier after his retirement from fashion in 2020. And among his fifty-nine spectacular silhouettes, Olivier Rousteing has imagined two dresses celebrating the body of the pregnant woman.

“You broke so many conventions for me when I was a child,” Olivier Rousteing told Jean Paul Gaultier before the show.

With his creations, the Bordelais is in line with his master.

The two models, adorned with imposing jewelry, arrived during the twenty-seventh passage, hands on their stomachs.

They wore the same molded leather dress, in two different shades.

Creations that unveiled a trompe-l'oeil naked body, with a majestic belly and conical breasts, surmounting on a draped skirt.

A stylistic proposal, aiming, perhaps, to question the look of fashion on the female body.

Masterful reissue

During his spring summer 2010-2011 fashion show, Jean Paul Gaultier called on Jourdan Dunn, then eight months pregnant.

The British top had walked the Parisian catwalk in a conical bib dress highlighting her round belly.

Last night, the loop between Olivier Rousteing and his mentor, who advocated inclusiveness before the hour, was closed.
