Before the end of his regular term of office, Peter-André Alt is leaving his post as President of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK).
The HRK announced on Thursday that he would resign on March 31, 2023 and thus before the end of his second term of office.
The departure is justified with a change to a new position.
According to the information, from April 1 next year Alt will take over the chairmanship of the management board for the establishment of a new science foundation in Berlin.
With an annual funding volume of up to 25 million euros and a program that is strongly geared towards cutting-edge research, career paths and internationality, this foundation should develop into one of the key players in the field of science promotion in Germany in the coming years.
The 62-year-old said it was not easy for him to decide to give up his post as HRK President.
However, the offer to take on a leading role in setting up this new science foundation was "extraordinarily attractive".
It offers him the opportunity to assume responsibility for the scientific system in a completely different role.
Alt has been President of the HRK for four years now.
In April 2021, he was re-elected for a second and final term that would have ended on July 31, 2024.
Before his tenure at the HRK, the professor worked, among other things, as President of the Freie Universität Berlin.
He studied German, political science, history and philosophy.
