After months of breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, the time has come to make the exciting transition to tasting and from there to establishing meals that will fit into the baby's daily diet.

It is true that it is food and physical and developmental maturity that will allow this transition, but the tasting phase also has emotional significance - the baby gets a taste of your life.

Noa Meiri

, a certified behavior facilitator and parent counselor, explains that at this point the world opens up to the baby, and after several months of exploring the world he now has the desire to take part in it.

He not only sees, but wants to be a partner in the adult world and one of the manifestations of this is in food.

So how do you know your baby is ready for the tasting phase?

The Ministry of Health recommends starting the tasting phase at the age of 6 months, but there are approaches that believe that even before that the baby may be due for it.

If you decide to start tasting, pay attention to whether the following are true:

1. The baby holds the head and neck firmly.

2. It has the ability to sit with adult support in the back.

3. He is interested in food, observing eating or anyone eating around him.

Most often, the baby will mimic the adult's movements around the food, move its tongue and urinate and sometimes even ask to taste.

This is probably the most obvious sign that you should start.

So start, but how?

It is recommended to start tasting in the morning after breakfast.

It is not advisable to offer new foods when the baby is very hungry or tired.

According to the Ministry of Health's Guide to Healthy Baby Feeding, the first recommended foods for a baby are varied and include fruits, vegetables, legumes, meat, chicken, turkey and cereal porridges designed for iron-fortified babies.

You should start with vegetables and carbs like potatoes and sweet potatoes, zucchini, pumpkin and carrots.

You can continue from there to vegetables like peas and broccoli.

The fruit tasting should start after the vegetable phase with an apple, banana, pear or peach.

After adding legumes and meat, it is recommended to add healthy oils to meals such as tahini, olive oil and avocado.

If you started the tasting and saw that the baby was flowing - great.

If he is not so pleased, it seems worthwhile to wait a bit and try again after a while.

Write for him what is happening around the food - "Do you want too?", "Are you interested in participating?"

And take the process as learning for yourself: this is an opportunity to get a glimpse of what the baby likes, what he does not, and how much he is learning at this point.

The Jama app was established with the aim of addressing mothers of babies from birth to age three, and centralizing for them content, activities, tips from experts and videos that will accompany them throughout this challenging period.

All the content in the app "grows" together with the baby and is precisely adapted to its developmental stages, so that the mothers receive only what is relevant to them and interests them at any given moment.

The Jama app is the place for mothers in Israel to meet and get to know other mothers around them, and create new and exciting friendships in the fascinating journey.
