Ulsi Perry, one of the greatest basketball players to ever play in Israel, celebrated his 72nd birthday this week, but did not expect to celebrate his birthday that way.
Perry underwent surgery this morning (Thursday) to amputate his leg at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.

In recent years Perry has suffered from poor health and in 2008 underwent a severe event when he suffered from an abdominal aneurysm in the aorta.
In the past, he was addicted to hard drugs, but underwent rehab with the help of the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club, with which he won the European Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.
Perry made Israel his home in 1997 and has been living in Tel Aviv for the past few years.
He was and still is one of the greatest symbols of Maccabi Tel Aviv of all time.
