Ultra-girly bathrobe lined with pink fur, silver choker and message t-shirt….
During the spring-summer 2023 fashion show of the Vetements label, one silhouette stood out from the others: a model whose style resembled, feature by feature, that of the
jet-setter
Paris Hilton.
With a message t-shirt on which we could read "Stop being rich" ("stop being rich"
, editor's note)
.
An ironic nod to an image that marked pop culture, and to one of the many feats of arms of the golden-haired heiress.

You have to go back to the 2000s to understand this allusion.
In 2005, Paris Hilton caused a sensation on the Internet with a flocked slogan T-shirt, "Stop being poor"
(
"stop being poor", Editor's note
)
.
Worn on the occasion of the launch of her sister Nicky Hilton's clothing brand, Chick, at the Palm Casino Resort in Las Vegas, it had become an emblem of the heiress' eccentric personality and sense of provocation.
Taken back then hijacked at the same time, the T-shirt has a second life, seventeen years later thanks to Guram Gvasalia, artistic director of the Vetements brand.
A myth created from scratch
Last year, Paris Hilton returned to this key moment of the 2000s on the Chinese application TikTok.
In a short video she explained that this t-shirt did not exist. “There is this famous cliché of me on the Internet.
I'm sure you've seen it.
I have never worn this tank top.
It was completely photoshopped.
Everyone thinks it exists, but it's not true.
she said in her famous nasal voice.
According to her, the original bore the inscription “Stop being desperate” (“stop being desperate”, editor’s

.
A myth created from scratch, which nevertheless continues to endure.
