To make territories, citizens and towns aware of the risks associated with the dispersion and waste of methane gas introduced directly into the atmosphere, a fossil gas with a climate-altering effect up to 86 times more powerful than that of CO2, but also to push Italy and the the whole of Europe to approve ambitious rules and regulations, aimed at reducing these emissions over time to zero: "There is a smell of Gas" is born, the new information and awareness campaign by Legambiente developed with the support of Clean Air Task Force (CATF).

Eight stages planned in Italy (in Sardinia, Abruzzo, Sicily, Basilicata, Liguria, Veneto, Campania and Emilia-Romagna) that will involve the entire fossil gas supply chain, from power plants to compression plants, from gas pipelines to extraction wells, creating the opportunity to address the issue of direct fossil gas dispersions, starting from local instances, through principals, press conferences, flash mobs and initiatives.

The first stage on Friday 8 July in Sardinia, with the sit-in in Portoscuso (SU) at what could be the future LNG Terminal of Portovesme (east quay): "to say no to the super-methane carrier - writes Legambiente - which would condemn Sardinia to lose the opportunity of a true sustainable local development made of clean energies with environmental, industrial and social benefits.

In fact, the choice of starting from this territory is emblematic: Sardinia is the ideal place to start and accelerate a complete and just transition to renewable sources.

But, on the contrary, it is now the subject of a methanisation program that would in fact require the island to use fossil gas at least until 2050/2060 ".
