Charlotte Ginsburg in Israel: A Row of International Guests at the Jerusalem Film Festival Israel today

Esteemed filmmakers and stars will be hosted in the Holy City on the occasion of the 39th Film Festival which will open on July 21 • These are the guests who will honor the event in their presence


A respectable battery of guests is expected to arrive in the Holy City on the occasion of the 39th Jerusalem Film Festival, which will open on Thursday, July 21st.

The festival will kick off with the screening of "Triangle of Sadness", the film that won this year's Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival, in the presence of film director Ruben Ostlund (who also won the Golden Palm Award for his film "The Square").

Ostlund, considered one of the most fascinating directors working in the world today, will hold two meetings with the audience during the festival.

On July 22 he will be present at the screening of his film, "Force Majeure," and will then discuss his work, and on July 23 there will be another screening of "Triangle of Sadness," after which Ostlund will answer audience questions.

Another guest who will make her way to Jerusalem is the French singer / actress Charlotte Ginsburg, who will be coming to the festival for the first time with her partner, director and actor Ivan Atal, and their son, Ben Atal.

Together they will present Ivan Atal's new film, "Blame," which stars Ginsburg and Ben Atal in the lead roles, alongside Matthias Kasowitz and Pierre Arditi.

Ginsberg also stars in two other films that will be screened at the festival - "Night Birds", by Michael Hers, and "Sunset", by Michel Franco.

The judging panel of the Israeli competition will be headed by the esteemed German director Polker Schlandorf ("The Tin Drum"), who is considered one of the founders of the new German cinema.

Schlandorf will also present at the festival his new documentary "Creator of the Forests" and hold a master class on working with actors.

Award-winning Cambodian director Riti Pan, who was nominated for an Oscar several years ago for his rocking and memorable film "The Missing Picture", will be coming to the festival to present his new film "Everything Will Be Alright" which won an Extraordinary Artistic Contribution at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.

As already announced, eight new Israeli films will participate this year in the Hajj competition for Israeli feature film, and seven films will take part in the documentary competition.

In addition, as part of the festival, there will also be a competition for short Israeli cinema and a competition for video art and experimental cinema.

The total amount of prizes to be awarded in the various competitions will be about NIS 1 million.

Last week, the festival's international program was also announced, and the selection includes quite a few high-profile films that premiered at the last Cannes Film Festival.

Among other things, South Korean director Park Chan-wok's "Decision to Leave" ("Seven Steps"), which won the director's award in Cannes, "Broker," by Japanese director Hirokazu Kora-eda ("My Family"), which won the award, will be screened. The actor in Cannes, "Crimes of the Future," by legendary Canadian director David Cronenberg ("History of Violence," "Naked Meal"), with Vigo Mortensen and Kirsten Stewart, "Tori and Lokita," by Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luke Darden, 3,000 Years of Longing, by Australian master George Miller ("Mad Max: Road to Rage"), starring Idris Alba and Tilda Swinton, "Kat!", The zombie film by French director Michel Haznevicius ("The Artist"), which opened Cannes Film Festival this year, "One Beautiful Morning",

In addition to all this, the festival will also screen new restored copies of classics such as "A Song Singing in the Rain", by Stanley Donen, "Mama Roma", by Pierre Paolo Pasolini, "The Mother and the Whore", by Jean Ustash and more.
