“The hospital should hold out”.
This is what the President of the Scientific Council, Jean-François Delfraissy, assures us this morning.
Asked about France Inter, the scientist returned to the health situation while France is going through a 7th wave of Covid-19, carried by the BA.5 sub-variant.
“We are dealing with a much more transmissible sub-variant, but which is not more severe”, he recalls, in passing.

Will the wave slow down soon?
This could already be the case in Île-de-France.
“The latest data suggests that there is a slowdown taking place in the Paris region, which was initially the most affected by the BA.5 wave.
This suggests that we could reach a peak in this region by next week,” observes the researcher.
According to Jean-François Delfraissy, about "this BA5 wave": "We have the impression that the speed of acceleration is falling, and that we are going to have an impact on the care system at the end of July, which can be mastered" #le69Inter pic.twitter.com/pflUWF2Rkz

“One has the impression, also seeing the data from Portugal, Martinique and other European countries, that the speed of acceleration is decreasing.
We will have an impact on the care system at the end of July, but which can be controlled, ”he judges.
"There will be tension in the hospital"
France currently has “between 1,100 and 1,200 classic hospitalizations per day”.
“We had arrived in March at 1,800 hospitalizations on average.
We will probably reach them, or even exceed them, ”he warns.
However, the impact on health facilities should be limited: “There will be tension on the hospital but I don't think there will be anything other than tension.
The healthcare system should hold up during this wave, ”he judges.
Regarding the wearing of the mask, imposing its wearing would not necessarily be relevant, further believes Jean-François Delfraissy.
And for good reason, “the measures that can be taken now have a relatively moderate impact in terms of population”.
In other words, as the wave is already well established, the effects of this measure on the healthcare system will be limited.
“We are more in the symbolic,” added the professor.

“The most effective measures concern the protection of the people most at risk and the oldest”, he recalled, advising them “to obtain their fourth dose now”.
Because even if vaccination does not prevent contamination, all studies show that "it protects against severe forms and serious forms", he insisted.
