“I thought I was going to die,” Harry Shimmin, who filmed a spectacular video while hiking in the Tian Shan Mountains in Kyrgyzstan, posted on Instagram.
As he admired the snow cover of Juuku Gorge, he heard a loud crunch.
The glacier collapsed and the avalanche was heading straight for it.
The video he posted on his Instagram account recounts 48 seconds of anguish for this young hiker.
“Yes, I waited for the last second to move.
I am very aware of having taken a big risk”, he admits afterwards.
He managed to take cover in time behind a rock.
Luckily, no casualties were reported.
"If we had walked 5 more minutes for our trek, we would all be dead," says the author of the video.
Of the group of ten tourists, only two of them suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized with injuries and bruises.
This incident recalls the collapse of the Marmolada glacier in the Italian Alps on July 3.
According to the latest report from the authorities, this tragedy left eleven dead.
Glaciers are particularly weakened by global warming.
