She was considered one of the most talented singers of her generation and shook the music world with her untimely death.
A feature film about the late British singer Amy Winehouse is in the works.
Fifty Shades of Gray director Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the biopic, the production and distribution company Studiocanal said.
First, the industry service "Deadline" had reported about it.
Winehouse, who rose to worldwide fame with songs like "Rehab" and "Back to Black," died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27 after years of struggling with drug and alcohol problems.
During her short career, the acclaimed singer with her powerful voice and lavishly teased updo won several Grammys.
It was a "dream" to make this film, wrote Taylor-Johnson on Instagram.
She linked the "Deadline" article with the hashtag #backtoblack.
Nothing was initially known about the cast of the main role.
Back to Black, the upcoming feature film, is being written by Matt Greenhalgh, who previously wrote the script for Taylor-Johnson's debut feature film, Nowhere Boy, about the young John Lennon.

Sam Taylor-Johnson film about the life of Amy Winehouse is not the first film about the singer.
Several documentaries have been made about her, the most recent being broadcast on the BBC in 2021 to mark the tenth anniversary of the singer's death.
And with »Amy«, the British director Asif Kapadia shot an Oscar-winning documentary about the life of the singer in 2015.
Mitch Winehouse, the singer's father, distanced himself from the film at the time, calling it misleading.
Back to Black, on the other hand, is being filmed with the full support of the Amy Winehouse estate.
