Everyone sweats, especially in the summer, which is natural and even essential for our body, but there are 5 percent of Israelis whose sweating is defined as excessive sweating, and their condition is more complex and frustrating.

Hyperhidrosis becomes such when it occurs beyond the amount the body needs to control body temperature.

Excessive sweating can be focused on one part of the body (e.g. armpits) or involve several areas together (armpits, palms, feet, face, chest key, scalp).

There is no fixed and quantitative criterion with which it is possible to assess whether the amount of sweat is normal or abnormal, but the rule of thumb is that if the sweater feels that his quality of life is impaired and is a disruptive factor in his daily routine, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Sometimes a medical test called iodine-starch can be performed that emphasizes the areas of sweating, but this test is not a quantitative measure of sweating.

The methods that will help you smell better

The distress caused by excessive sweating is not only expressed in sweat circles in clothes, but often also in severe feelings of shame, insecurity and real social harm.

Among other things, avoiding handshakes or physical contact with others, avoiding sports activities, difficulty holding tools, work or writing devices, using a keyboard or steering wheel, multiple showers and changing clothes several times a day and more.

Hyperhidrosis is divided into two main types:

1 - Primary hyperhidrosis - caused without a clear cause.

Some believe as a result of over-stimulation of the central nervous system.

2 - Secondary hyperhidrosis (secondary to one existing disease or another) In this case various medical conditions such as diabetes, obesity, various neurological conditions, menopausal symptoms and the like should be ruled out.

Due to the fact that hyperhidrosis is very detrimental to people who suffer from it, a number of treatments have been developed over the years to provide a solution, here they are.

Botox injections

The same famous substance used to eliminate wrinkles on the face can also help in the activity of the sweat glands.

The doctor anesthetizes the area and injects the substance into the treatment area.

Botox can lead to beautiful success rates of up to 80 percent.

Unlike surgical treatment or microwaves - Botox treatment requires maintenance treatments up to twice a year and of course as needed.

It is important to note that in this treatment and unlike surgical treatment there is no compensation mechanism, meaning no more sweating elsewhere.

Mira Drey

This is an advanced treatment that works with microwave technology and offers an effective solution for the armpit area only.

In the vast majority of cases patients are required for one treatment session that stops the excessive sweating permanently in high percentages, rarely additional complementary treatment will be required.

The treatment itself is slightly longer than Botox and may take about an hour and a quarter, it is done under local anesthesia.

In this treatment, the doctor heats the sweat glands in the armpit with the help of the microwaves of the Mira-Dry device, and in this way he actually puts them out of use.

In most cases, patients benefit from the fact that after the treatment there is a reduction in the smell of sweat in the area.

Today, Mira Dray treatment is considered very popular due to the combination of benefits it offers, including the ability to solve excessive sweating with only one treatment (among 80 percent of patients) with only a slight recovery.

Medication

A dermatologist and sometimes even a family doctor can recommend a prescription aluminum chloride preparation.

This is an initial treatment for a problem designed for relatively mild cases.

This substance physically blocks and inhibits the activity of the sweat glands.

Apply it the night before bed and in the morning clean it from the body. The preparation should be applied before bed when the treated area is clean and dry.

In the morning, wash the remnants of the substance from the skin.

The product can be used in any area that suffers from excessive sweating, but the most common use is in the armpits.

There are also a number of systemic drugs on the market that act on the nervous system and thus disrupt the activity of the sweat glands among other things.

These are drugs such as clonidine, benzodiazepines, or other drugs from the family of anticholinergic drugs and more.

These can help, but also cause other symptoms of dry mouth, and in extreme cases also urinary retention, arrhythmias or blurred vision.

Surgery

In more severe cases the doctor may recommend surgery that will stop the excessive sweating and prevent it in the future as well.

However, it is important to remember that surgery is a surgical procedure that also involves risks and in some cases cause the appearance of a compensation mechanism - and after the procedure you may suffer from excessive sweating in an area far from the armpit.

Either way, if you are looking for a solution to hyperhidrosis, it is advisable to consult an experienced doctor who can figure out with you what will be the most effective and appropriate way for you.
