Born in Cuba, Ana de Armas has established herself in Hollywood with films such as Knives Out, Blade Runner 2049 and most recently as the Bond girl in No Time to Die.
Now she strikes alongside Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in the Netflix thriller The Gray Man as CIA agent Dani Miranda.
In this role she should play a real "bad ass" woman, De Armas enthused on Wednesday at the press conference in Los Angeles.
As a Bond girl, she had to wear heels and look her best, which is what the actress said.
Luckily, her new film isn't about her looks or romance, but her ability as a seasoned agent.
"It's really cool and important to put women in action movies in that light and to highlight them as tough 'bad ass' guys," De Armas said.
In "The Gray Man," directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, she provides cover for a hitman (Ryan Gosling) who works for the US Secret Service.
She trained hard for the role.
"At first I ran around like a chicken with the heavy gun vest," said the actress.
