Pets not only cost time, but also money.

A new survey shows what costs you will incur - broken down by race.

Food, toys, costs for care and dog trainers: Pet owners know how badly an animal can cost you money.

Nevertheless, dogs and/or cats are part of the family in many households.

Because the advantages for animal lovers are obvious: Your beloved four-legged friends are happy every time their master or mistress comes home and there are no objections either - which you can't say about your partner or boss.

Would you also like to get a cat or a dog?

Then you should definitely keep an eye on the costs.

The online voucher platform savoo has broken down and analyzed the

total costs

for a cat or dog according to different breeds.

Survey on Pets

Pet Costs: Cats are more expensive to keep than dogs

As part of the savoo analysis, it was taken into account, among other things, how much dog or cat owners spend on purchase, food, insurance, liability, taxes, vaccinations, training and accessories such as cat litter, dog sofa, scratching post, etc.

The astonishing result:

cats cause far higher costs than dogs

.

Where dog owners pay an average of almost 11,000 euros over the course of their dog's life, cat owners spend more than 20,700 euros for their four-legged friends.

But there are differences in terms of races.

According to savoo ,

inexpensive dog breeds

include:

  • Bulldogs are around eight years old and cost their owners around 7,200 euros during this period.

  • A dachshund costs its owner around 9,800 euros over the course of its life.

More expensive dog breeds include

Labradors and Golden Retrievers

.

Not only is this breed quite expensive to buy at an average of 1,700 euros for a puppy, the cost of food is also relatively high, according to the savoo press release.

In total, this results in costs of around 15,000 euros per dog's life.

Expensive cat breed costs owners around 25,000 euros

Cat lovers who want to spend as little as possible on their protégé should avoid getting a Savannah cat.

This is one of the largest cat breeds and costs its owners around

25,000 euros

over the course of their lives.

The reason for this: The Savannah cat is very old with a life expectancy of around 16 years and needs a lot of food due to its size.

The acquisition costs are also high: you have to shell out around 1,196 euros if you want to buy the pedigree cat.

You can get away with it more cheaply with a

Russian Blue cat

: Owners pay an average of around 16,700 euros over the course of the cat's life.

The Persian cat is also one of the more affordable breeds with a total price of around 18,399 euros.
