Two years after the unclear death in Colombia, on 15 July 2020, of Mario Paciolla, at the time a UN co-operative, his parents, Anna Maria Motta and Giuseppe Paciolla, filed a complaint yesterday in Bogotà with the Attorney General of the Nation , Francisco Barbosa Delgado, against two UN officials, Christian Thompson and Juan Vásquez, and four police officers.

The complaint, supported by the Network Association of Human Rights Defenders of Colombia, concerns the hypothesis of "alteration of the scene (of death) and obstruction of justice".

Paciolla -33, born in Naples, was an operational employee of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia in San Vicente del Caguán, in the department of Caquetá, when he was found dead inside his residence, in an apparent condition of suicide , never

accepted by family and friends, who instead lean towards the thesis of murder.

In the complaint - writes the newspaper El Tiempo, which had access to the document - it is stated that Thompson would have entered the apartment of

Paciolla on July 15, after convincing the owner to give him the keys, finding inside the body of the Italian citizen.

He would later return to Paciolla's residence with his UN superior, Juan Vásquez, and personally manage the recovery operations of the material belonging to the victim, a task that would have been the responsibility of the four Colombian agents who showed up on the spot.

The four found evident traces of blood on a mattress and in some utensils, without however taking possession of them for the use of justice.

Instead, the document insists, this material was delivered to Thompson and Vásquez, who allegedly threw it in a public landfill.

"Two years after his death, we do not stop asking for truth and justice about Mario Paciolla's death. Mario's story is that of a young man, journalist, cooperator and passionate activist, who spent his life for a better world. Italy must not stop asking, forcefully and by all means, the whole truth by exerting any kind of diplomatic pressure on the Colombian authorities and the United Nations,

so that full light is shed on the attempts at misdirection and on too many obscure points of this story ".

This is the comment on Facebook by the deputy dem Erasmo Palazzotto, according to whom "the death of people like him is the death of a piece of our country".
