Luckily without an accident: An 83-year-old woman drove her car seven kilometers in oncoming traffic on the A73 near Ebensfeld in Bavaria.
Police patrols stopped southbound traffic on Saturday morning after nearly 30 reports of the wrong-way trip toward Bad Staffelstein were received.
A police officer, who was privately driving his car in the right lane next to the elderly woman, noticed the driver and drove parallel to her along the highway to tell other patrols the position of the 83-year-old, the police said.
When she left the Autobahn near Bad Staffelstein, the police officer stopped her car in the market square.
According to her own statements, the woman had proceeded accordingly.
The officials confiscated her driver's license and initiated investigations into endangering road traffic against the 83-year-old.
Her son then picked her up from the police station.
