Adva Zrihan, 32, from Maanot Mordechai, spent her childhood within the walls of the pediatric ward at Kaplan Medical Center, due to the need for a series of surgeries she underwent from the age of one to seven.

She was born suffering from a connection of the fingers alongside a plurality of fingers (called syndactyly and polydactyly), until her parents decided to stop the surgeries.

Adva knew that this medical condition was an inheritance she and her sister received from her father.

But what she did not know at this point was that she would bequeath it to her two sons as well.

"Until I returned to Kaplan with my two sons, I remembered almost nothing of the hospitalization as a child," says Adva. "The hospitalization with the boys brought back to me all the difficult memories from that period."

Polydactyly is a congenital malformation in which the baby is born with more than five fingers in one or more of the limbs, while syndactyly is a congenital malformation in which the baby is born with connected fingers, when beyond the aesthetic defect, these infants suffer from malformation in the limbs due to the malformation.

These are defects that can be caused by a genetic defect, but even if the gene is present, it does not necessarily pass to the baby.

In Adva, as stated, the defect passed to her two sons.

Adva says that "during the pregnancy of my eldest son, Harel, about six years ago, I did all the tests, and in all the reviews the doctor counted 5 fingers. I insisted with him that he was wrong. Reaching her second pregnancy is already more confident and determined that this situation can recur, although there is no certainty that the next child will necessarily also suffer from syndactyly or polydactyly.

Already on the first scans they saw that the toes of the fetus are attached to the hands and he has six toes in the legs.

The gynecologists who accompany her during pregnancy insist with her that it may indicate a number of other syndromes, but she is mature, convinced that the child will be born healthy, except for a limb defect.

Rani, her second son, was born in week 36, and in her words: "came out perfect", and the happy parents are already at that moment preparing themselves for a series of surgeries.

They return to Dr. Oron, and although he prepares them for the operation to be difficult, during the operation he discovers that the condition is worse than previously thought. Rani undergoes a long 7-hour operation, during which his fingers are separated.Rani recovers from the operation, and he is expected to fully recover soon and improve the ability to use his hands and before him further surgeries.
