At the beginning of July, eleven people died in the area when a glacier broke off, and now a gap has opened on the Marmolada in northern Italy. It should be 200 meters long.

Authorities have discovered a crevasse on the highest mountain in the Dolomites.

A hut owner sounded the alarm after hearing a loud rumble, according to the Autonomous Province of Trento.

The authorities controlled the area from the air.

A video released on Sunday showed a fissure about 200 meters long and between 25 and 35 meters wide.

The area has been closed to hikers since the July 3 accident, which killed a total of eleven people.

At that time, ice, snow and rubble broke away and buried people under themselves.

A man and a woman from Germany were injured.

Experts attributed the glacier break-off to the consequences of climate change.

The area was previously significantly warmer than usual.

Meltwater could therefore have favored the departure.

The authorities now want to continuously monitor the area.
