Gianmarco Tamberi took fourth place in the high jump at the World Athletics Championships underway in Eugene, Oregon, stopping at 2.35 after jumping 2.33 on the second attempt.

By virtue of this result, the Italian finished fourth, while the race continued with the Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim, the South Korean Woo Sang-hyeok and the Ukrainian Andrij Procenko.

In the end the victory went to the Olympic champion Mutaz Essa Barshim who failed the attempt at 2.42 and gave up, still being first after an almost error-free trial.

Silver went to South Korea with Woo breaking 2.39.

Third place for the Ukrainian Protsenko with 2.33 at the first attempt.

The Olympic champion athlete from Marche easily passed the first tests, with the bar at 2.19, 2.24 and 2.27.

At 2.30 he missed the target twice, but on the third he made it, on the second attempt he also exceeded 2.33, despite his not perfect physical condition.

"I put my heart and soul into it, it's a shame because this time it wasn't enough, I bring home that I was an example of resilience for Italy", said Gianmarco Tamberi in an interview with Rai, immediately after fourth place.

"The world gold? It will come, if I finish fourth in these conditions it can only arrive. In the meantime I want to heal; Monaco

is a different goal from the World Championship, I will be there and I want to win but first I have to heal", he added.
