Forest fire in Versilia, some houses evacuated as a precaution
There are currently over

due to the fire that has affected the
hills of Massarosa
(Lucca) since last night.
The president of the Region
Eugenio Giani
, who is monitoring the situation, says he is "very worried" and is on his way to Massarosa.
The state of the vegetation stressed by drought and the wind that is blowing over the area, explains the Region in a note, make it difficult for the extinguishing operations that fail to bring the fire under control.
The strong wind is causing the phenomenon of so-called spotting for which there are jumps of flames that go on to trigger new fires even many meters away from the fire front.
"I am in constant contact with the operations room that has been working non-stop for hours - underlines Giani -. The air drops and the incessant work of the AIB firefighting teams from all over Tuscany continue. Five regional helicopters and four Canadair are operating in the area," on the ground 12 firefighting volunteer teams, firefighters and forest workers to secure the most dangerous areas.

The Vice-President of the Region and Councilor for Agriculture, with responsibility for fire-fighting services,
Stefania Saccardi
, is following the evolution of the situation from the Regional Operations Room of the Civil Protection.
"Maximum attention is paid by the Region - observes Saccardi - and maximum commitment to the event that has led us to deploy all the forces in the field, and I thank them for the enormous effort. We are close to the evacuated families. 'obvious ban on burnings, I take this opportunity to invite all citizens to pay extreme attention to agricultural operations in a moment of particular drought ".
34 teams are also involved on site, 10 of which are from the fire brigade and 24 from the regional forest fire fighting organization.
Shifts and spare parts have already been planned for the next few hours with the activation of a further 31 teams.
