Consumers love bargain shopping and in times of scarcity and shortage, these are more popular than ever.
Sunflower oil is just one product that's been hoarded by the crate lately.
But now, in view of the fuel prices, motorists are even stocking up on diesel and petrol at home.
Munich - In times of scarcity and shortages, everyone has certainly thought about stocking up.
For example, for preserves, sunflower oil or cheap meat products, which are then bunkered in the freezer or the kitchen cupboard for the coming weeks.
But there are supposed to be people who think about hoarding petrol in canisters and putting them in their garage or in the basement of their apartment building.
According to the latest information from the ADAC, fuel prices are currently falling again, but that is apparently not enough for most drivers.
The criticism is loud that the current fuel prices are "still greatly inflated".
The tank discount has also been completely eaten up in the meantime, which is why the Union is now pushing for improvements.
Refueling at the pump: It is sometimes cheaper abroad
Given the prices at the pump, consumers are looking for the best deal on fuel apps.
Clever drivers even refuel in advance and fill up several canisters at the same time.
Others drive quickly across the border to Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland or Luxembourg because refueling is “sometimes much cheaper” there, writes

.
And since there was no rush to petrol stations in Bavaria even on the first day of the reduction in motor vehicle tax, one could almost assume that many would like to drive quickly across the border to fill up.
Anyone who comes up with the idea of filling up more than one tank should know that only 20 liters of fuel may be imported duty-free from member states of the European Union in addition to a tank filling, explains lawyer Tobias Klingelhöfer to

.
Filling the tank up once and filling a reserve canister is permitted.

Refueling at the pump: Store petrol in the garage
According to Klingelhöfer, the legislature allows a maximum of 20 liters of petrol and 200 liters of diesel fuel in small garages, and only one liter in your own four walls.
However, neither cellars nor underground garages are suitable places for storing fuel.
In addition, the driver should read the rental agreement to see whether storing petrol could possibly be a breach of contract, advises the legal expert to all those who plan to store their "hamster purchases" in canisters at home.
Refueling at the pump: 240 liters of petrol in the car are allowed
If you still plan to buy fuel in advance, you should know that you can carry up to 60 liters of petrol per canister and a maximum of 240 liters in the car.
The canisters must comply with the applicable DIN standard and be airtight, lockable and unbreakable.

The canisters must be transported safely so that they cannot slip, tip over or roll back and forth.

Incidentally, it's not just a trip to a border country that saves money when refueling.
Motorists can also refuel cheaper in Germany if they drive to the pump at certain times.
