Three tips on how to banish heat from the attic - without air conditioning

Attic apartments get extremely hot in summer.

With a few tricks, however, you can keep the heat out of your four walls.

Anyone who has ever lived in the attic knows that it can get really hot here in summer.

More than 30 degrees are easily possible.

The reason for this is the special location of these apartments: the direct sunlight on the roof really heats up the living areas.

In addition, warm air always rises, which is why the heat accumulates mainly in the attic.

Even at night it hardly cools down, which in turn ensures a sweaty sleep that even affects the mattresses.

Nevertheless, these tips ensure that you cool down quickly in the attic.

1. Ventilate the top floor properly and switch to draft

To refresh yourself immediately, create a cool draft in the attic: open the windows and doors on the opposite side of the house.

Since the sun never shines on both sides at the same time, there is a temperature gradient that cools us down.

However, forced ventilation is only worthwhile when the outside temperature is lower than the inside temperature, i.e. preferably in the morning immediately after getting up or at night.

Midday is the least suitable for airing.

2. Hang wet towels to reduce the heat in the attic

Another proven tip against heat: hang wet towels, sheets or other cotton towels in the attic.

The humidity cools down the room temperature - and all without air conditioning.

The trick works even better if you use a fan to distribute the air in the room.

3. Switch off electronic devices when it is hot in the attic

In order not to further increase the temperature in the attic, turn off all unnecessary electrical appliances.

This does not mean the refrigerator, but rather entertainment media such as televisions and games consoles - or even the dishwasher.

Electronic devices generate heat during operation, which they emit into the air in the room.

Therefore, when it is hot, only run the devices that you absolutely need.
