Google Maps has new things coming up in the near future.
A feature is currently being planned that will not only get drivers to their destination faster, but also more energy-efficiently.
Menlo Park, California, USA - "Turn left at the next intersection..." Drivers who use navigation systems know this tip.
In addition to left, right and straight ahead, Google Maps also offers different options when it comes to route planning.
With toll, without toll, the shortest or the fastest.
Now the map and navigation service is apparently planning options for fuel-saving route planning in its navigation tool, reports the
9to5google.com
portal .
Users could then not only choose the fastest route, but also the most energy-efficient route individually for themselves and their vehicle.
Google Maps: save fuel by choosing the type of engine
Energy saving well and good.
Topic are the different engines.
The most efficient route for a petrol engine may be different than for an electric car or hybrid.
Now there are signs that in the future it will also be possible to configure the engine of your vehicle in order to get from A to B as energy-efficiently as possible.
Because Google, the Silicon Valley company, plans to tailor the routes specifically to the engine types, according to 9to5google.com.
The goal: route planning based on fuel and energy savings.
The portal reports that it is unclear how extensive the drive selection will be.
The online magazine Golem
writes that it is not yet possible to determine whether it will only be possible to choose between electric drive, hybrid and combustion engines, or whether there will still be a distinction between diesel, petrol and gas with combustion engines
.
It is also questionable whether the selection will also be possible in Germany or initially only in North America.
Google Maps: Widget brings information
Just a few weeks ago, Google released widgets that show the traffic situation in the immediate vicinity.
Thanks to this widget, the traffic situation in the vicinity can be displayed directly on the smartphone home screen.
The advantage is that users can zoom into the map directly via the widget without opening the app.
Other widgets include shortcuts for route planning, location, sharing locations, general traffic conditions and driving mode.
