The group justifies it by "the difficult dynamics of the market" in France and its "ambition for sustainable and profitable growth".

Meal delivery giant Just Eat Takeaway announced on Wednesday that it plans to shed 350 delivery workers in France and around 40 positions in support functions in particular due to the "

difficult market dynamics

" in the country .

.

This is an upward review for the Anglo-Dutch group, which announced in April that it planned to part with 269 delivery workers on permanent contracts in France and from 23 to 30 positions in support functions, in 20 cities.

The reorganization now concerns the delivery service in 26 French cities, where “

we are currently looking for another solution

,” the Anglo-Dutch group told AFP.

"

In Paris, we will continue to offer this service with delivery people who are our permanent employees

", underlined the spokesperson, while insisting that "

all this is currently still an intention and depends on discussions with the works councils and unions

”.

Just Eat Takeaway experienced strong growth with the development of home deliveries favored by the Covid-19 pandemic, but the phenomenon has since subsided.

The group explained its intention to restructure its operations in France by “

the difficult market dynamics

” in France and its “

ambition for sustainable and profitable growth

”.

2500 municipalities served

In France, Just Eat currently serves 2,500 municipalities.

Most affiliated restaurants “

take delivery

,” the spokeswoman explained.

But in 27 of these municipalities where it is present, the model is based on employees for a delivery service offered by Just Eat, which led the company to announce in early 2021 that it was going to hire 4,500 couriers on permanent contracts.

It is no longer twenty cities that the management wants to close, but 26, that is to say all, except Paris

”, reacted the CGT.

In a statement released Monday, the union expressed indignation at "

a real affront to the face of employees who were already fighting for their jobs, their working conditions and their wages

".

"

We will do everything we can to support impacted employees throughout this process

," said the Just Eat spokesperson.
