"Smoke from fires is very harmful to health because it contains fine particles which pass into the blood and can have repercussions on the whole organism", points out Olivier Brun, pulmonologist and member of the pollution group SPLF (Société de Pneumologie de French language).
The fires that have ravaged the Gironde since July 12 contribute to atmospheric pollution because the smoke contains fine particles, which are very harmful to humans.
"These particles are invisible to the naked eye and that's the tragedy because as people don't see them, they don't worry about them", warns the pulmonologist.
However, these fumes can impact the respiratory tract, trigger cardiovascular diseases and disrupt the metabolism.
This smoke reached Paris following air masses on July 19, creating a fairly thick fog over the capital and deteriorating air quality.
Olivier Brun concludes: "And because of global warming, we will be able to see the multiplication of fires" and thus the deterioration of air quality.
