The net looks like those used for fishing by trawlers.
Yet here, it is not a question of fish but of waste.
Since 2016, Ocean Cleanup has made it its mission to clean the oceans of as much plastic waste as possible that pollutes them.
Nylon ropes, plastic buoys, laundry baskets, nets... The NGO is attacking in particular the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" (Great Pacific Garbage Patch, GPGP), a huge floating trash can that is 3 times the size of mainland France, covered with 80,000 tons of waste.

After several years of research, Ocean Cleanup has developed an innovative technique: two boats pull in a huge funnel-shaped net.
At the end of this net, the waste is blocked and can then be recovered on board ships.
Once on dry land, they are sorted and recycled.
