Child bonus 2022: who is entitled to the payment?

All parents who receive child benefit for at least one month in 2022 are also entitled to the child bonus.

This also applies to parents who only receive child benefit from August or later.

Foster parents also receive the bonus for all foster children.

The payment is made without deductions, the federal government states on its website that the child bonus is not counted as income.

This means that people who depend on social benefits do not have to reckon with any deductions.

This applies to the child allowance, the housing allowance and the maintenance advance – this is how low-income people are to be supported.

A seizure of the money is also excluded.

The child bonus 2022 does not have to be applied for, the payment is made automatically.

The child bonus 2022 will be paid out in July shortly after the regular child benefit.

High-earning families will not benefit from the child bonus for 2022

Families with a higher income do not automatically benefit from the child bonus.

The Lohnsteuerhilfeverein Bayern eV explains: “Only in the case of higher-income parents does the tax authorities offset the bonus against the child allowance as part of the tax family benefit equalization.

In the comparative calculation based on the income tax return, if parents are better off with the child allowance than with child benefit, the child bonus no longer has a tax-relieving effect".

Child bonus and immediate child supplement – ​​what are the differences?

A major difference between the child bonus and the immediate child supplement is that the child bonus is only paid once to all parents and foster parents.

Families with low incomes receive the immediate child supplement monthly.

In addition, the amount of the payment differs, with the immediate child supplement, 20 euros are transferred monthly.
