In the debate about staff shortages in schools, the opposition in Baden-Württemberg raised serious allegations.
The reason for this was the dismissal of several thousand temporary teachers over the summer holidays.
The education policy spokesman for the SPD, Stefan Fulst-Blei, spoke on Thursday in the state parliament of an "unspeakable practice", as the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" reports.
"How can you treat people like that?" he asked.
The lack of staff in schools is thereby exacerbated, the job made less attractive.
As a result, Grün-Schwarz broke campaign promises, the credibility of the Minister of Education was "dismantled," Fulst-Blei is quoted as saying.
In one week, at the beginning of the summer holidays, around 4,000 teachers will be made redundant in Baden-Württemberg - although they will be needed again in the autumn.
Fulst-Blei criticized that Grün-Schwarz did not even want to spend 15 million euros a year to end this practice.
The advertising campaign »The Länd«, on the other hand, cost the country 21 million euros.
With the campaign, the state government wants to present Baden-Württemberg as an attractive business location and, among other things, recruit skilled workers.
The SPD, on the other hand, calls for a comprehensive expansion of study places in the teaching profession and an appropriate increase in the sick leave reserve.
Government rejects criticism: "They act as if Holland were in trouble"
"They act as if Holland were in need," said Minister Theresa Schopper (Greens) of the criticism, according to the report.
97 percent of the teachers are permanent or civil servants anyway.
Schopper also referred to the costs and budgetary needs.
However, certain teachers who have been working in schools for a long time will be accommodated when contracts are extended.
In Baden-Württemberg, the shortage of teachers has been a particular point of contention for months.
Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann had specifically intervened in the debate.
In a "fire letter" to schools in the country, he called for part-time teachers to increase their hours and voluntarily work a few more hours.
The proposal had met with fierce criticism from teachers' associations.
Kretschmann and Schopper also did not reject an increase in classes.
