(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 23 - The era of unsolicited commercial telephone calls by call centers and specialized companies is about to end.

In fact, the activation of the new services of the Public Register of Oppositions is scheduled for next 27 July, a revolution on the telemarketing front that will allow users to oppose the use for advertising purposes of the telephone numbers of which they are holders and the corresponding associated postal addresses, present in public lists, by operators who carry out marketing activities by telephone and paper mail.

But the "flop" risk is just around the corner: the squeeze does not apply to call centers located abroad, for example.

Furthermore, illegal operators could continue to harass phone users without the risk of incurring penalties.

To register with the Register and block the processing of their personal data, citizens can choose between four modes: web (filling in an electronic form), telephone (call the RPO toll-free number), email (sending a specific form via e-mail), registered mail.

The telemarketing operator who uses the data present in the public telephone directories is required to check the lists of potential contacts with the RPO, through a series of services available on the register site.

In the event of violations of the Register, operators risk very high fines: in fact, administrative fines of up to 20 million euros or, for companies, up to 4% of annual turnover are envisaged.
