Even lawnmower parents only want the best for their offspring.

However, with their parenting style, they can make their own children unhappy.

Two children play together peacefully on the playground.

When an argument arises about the shovel, one of the mothers intervenes immediately.

This scenario takes place when so-called lawnmower parents are out and about.

In contrast to the helicopter parents, they not only constantly hover around their offspring - always on the lookout for the next potential danger - but also solve all problems for them.

Contrary to their intention to only want the best for their children, however, they damage them and their development considerably.

A teacher even warns against unhappy children.

A teacher coined the term lawnmower parents in an anonymously written text on the weareteachers.com website.

There he reported on the type of parents who want to remove all obstacles from the way of their children before the children even notice it.

Lawnmower mothers and fathers like to get involved, do their protégés' homework or, like submarine parents, can put pressure on teachers if they don't like their children's grades or if the promotion is at risk.

The teacher's experiences show that the parents only mean well with their protégés.

In his opinion, however, their behavior and their upbringing style do not exactly contribute to the children later becoming happy adults.

Because by trying to protect their children from all kinds of failures and arguments, lawnmower parents rob them of important experiences and harm the development of self-confidence, self-esteem and self-efficacy.

After all, everyone in life has challenges to deal with.

But if you never learn to solve a problem yourself, you could have difficulties later and therefore become unhappy.

Another expert also criticizes the upbringing style of lawnmower parents and warns against bringing up "dependent tyrants".

Like helicopter parents, lawnmower parents need to learn to let go

Since the lawnmower parents belong to the group of helicopter parents, they too have to learn to let go.

They can succeed in this, for example, if they put themselves in their child's shoes and take and consider not only their own perspective but also their perspective.

In addition, it is important to distinguish when the child needs real protection and in which situations only the support of the parents is required.

The child should also develop a kind of "own radar".

This offers him orientation for action in certain situations.
