Two future "Avengers" movies, announcement of new superheroes and a TV series based on the "Lord of the Rings" books • Thousands came to the "World's Greatest Nerd Festival", Comic Con, to see what is in store for them in the showbiz industry

New Marvel Comics superheroes, blockbuster action star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and the intriguing "Lord of the Rings" television series, wowed thousands of fans at Comic Con 2022, which closed yesterday (Sunday) in San Diego.

The biggest entertainment convention in showbiz attracts hundreds of thousands of comics, fantasy and science fiction fans every year and for more than four decades to what is known as "the biggest nerd festival in the world".

The conference was held for the first time in three years not in a virtual format due to the constraints of the corona virus.

Crowds of fans dressed as their favorite characters returned to occupy the downtown streets of the sunny city on the southwestern edge of the USA, and some got to see up close the big stars who came especially from Hollywood to unveil their wares and present some of the most talked about series and movies for the near future in the identified genres with the conference.

The highlight was, as expected, the Disney and Marvel Comics panel, which thrilled the 6,500 lucky people who managed to get a seat in the large hall at the convention center (some of them lined up a day in advance, just to secure a seat in the first rows), with exclusive glimpses of the "Black Panther" sequel, The third film in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" film series and the next film of the superhero "Antman".

In each such presentation, actors from those films appeared who were content with a short sentence-two on stage, and even that made the fans roar with enthusiasm.

In the last decade, "Marvel" became the dictates of the agenda in Hollywood with regard to the revenues of billions of dollars at the box office, thanks to the "Avengers" film series, which over the years received massive promotion as part of Comic Con.

This time, two future "Avengers" movies and more new superheroes, which the audience is going to get to know in the coming years, were unexpectedly announced.

On the other hand, the competitors from Warner Studios and DC Comics promoted only two films, which will be released this fall, disappointing the fans without any new announcement or surprise guests.

Their panel included glimpses of the film "Black Adam", starring Dwayne Johnson, who made an impressive grandiose entrance on the stage in the suit of the character he plays, and the sequel of the superhero "Shazam", which this time is joined by Oscar winner Helen Mirren and up-and-coming actress Reich to Zegler ("The Story of the Suburbs"), who were not present themselves and sent a recorded video.

No mention was made of any of the really heavy guns of the DC corporation like Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman, who is Gal Gadot, and not a word was heard about future films.

Among the projects that were promoted at this year's conference and received the most attention: a panel moderated by Light Night presenter Stephen Colbert ahead of the release of the new television series based on Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" book series, which has been in development for four years and will be released in early September on Amazon Prime Video;

Promotion for the movie "Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" starring Hugh Grant and Reggae Jean Feig ("Bridgerton");

spinoffs of the popular zombie drama The Walking Dead;

and a panel led by Keanu Reeves to announce a comic book brand that he co-created, with future plans for series and movies in which he will be involved.
