A message page instead of a script: "Manaich" betrays herself Israel today

2022-07-25T05:24:49.021Z

All of a sudden, the subversive series, which usually avoids pleasing its viewers, chose a twist designed in advance to please the audience, which sees the prosecutor's office as the source of evil and sews up cases

Two seasons are enough to realize that "Manaich" does not fall into the formulas of classic police series.

Therefore, it was unnecessary to expect that the final episode of the season would bring with it a catharsis, during which the arch-criminal was imprisoned and justice was displayed on giant screens in golden letters.

As we know, the favorite finger of "Manaich" is the triangular finger, and there was never a hidden desire to give the audience some kind of emotional satisfaction or an optimistic closure to gloomy storylines.

And really, this season too the good guys were defeated, the bad guys survived, and justice was hidden under the carpet.

The final episode crowned the prosecutor's office in control of the wild jungle of the law enforcement agencies (known as "the system"), all at the expense of one character who kidnapped the strongest and most painful of them all.

Inspector Tal Ben Harosh (Liraz Hammi) led the fight against the corrupt system in the premiere season, but this year she really became a tragic figure.

In the first episode she was shot, she was seriously injured, lost her fetus, and later escaped from a long hospitalization and tried at all costs to be involved in the investigation of the assassination attempt on her.

Nothing went right this time for the determined investigator from Israel. She cursed a lot, fell into a deep depression, became addicted to painkillers, was dragged behind the events and was a burden on the other characters, who saw her as crazy. Hammi shone in her acting skills and swept the character into a depressing vortex of mental instability. Physical and mental problems her character became irrelevant to the story, and she was relegated to a place from where she can no longer troll the system.

And so, despite being at the center of the plot, Ben Harosh was the most broken character in this season, and since "Manaich" is a depressing series at its core, it is not obliged to provide its viewers with a happy ending.

The one who was created to troll the system from the inside, was sacrificed for the purpose of dramatizing the message that the individual person is not as important as it is that the system continues to operate.

While the favorite figure on the boards, the one who won the seasonal chess battle was "the system".

The messages that "Manaich" drips into your eyes about the Prime Minister's files and the intrigues in the prosecutor's office were so strong that they broke through the bibist message page, hitched a ride on Saladin and entered as the basis for the twist that decided the fate of the season.

And so, outwardly, "Manaich" is trying to troll the system, to expose the combines and the working methods, but the connection she made with the Prime Minister's files was more than an implicit wink.

He was too direct and blunt from being just a script solution to close a plot.

What happened at the end of the episode, and I won't elaborate because spoilers, is a solution that goes against the principles of the series.

For his sake, suddenly "Manaich", which does not please its viewers, chose a twist designed in advance to please an audience, which sees the prosecutor's office as a source of evil and sews up cases.

Suddenly, precisely at the end of the season, the subversive series chose to throw the fate of its main characters into a network of tangled interests of the prime minister's investigations in such an excessive way that it mainly serves political interests.

Two seasons were enough for "Manaich" to internalize its own message - if you can't win - it's better to embrace the ruling system and echo its message.

"Manaich", second season finale, 21:15, here 11 were we wrong?
