(ANSA) - MESSINA, 25 JUL - Five Egyptians, aged between 21 and 28, believed to be the alleged smugglers of a fishing boat with 674 migrants on board, 179 of whom arrived in Messina, along with five corpses, were stopped by police and finance police.
The Prosecutor assumes the offenses of favoring illegal immigration and death as a consequence of another crime.
According to the accusation, based on witnesses who said they were beaten with sticks and straps during the voyage, the deaths were due to dehydration linked to the extreme heat and the lack of drinking water, heavily rationed on board.
