At the end of the meeting with the native populations of Canada in Maskwacis, the indigenous chief Wilton Littlechild, survivor of the former Ermineskin residential school where the ceremony took place, gave the Pope an Indian chief's headdress, solemnly placing it on his head to the sound of drums and a traditional native song, to the loud applause of those present.
