Alcohol damages the brain and liver.

Accordingly, health authorities warn against excessive consumption.

According to a study, people under the age of 40 should not drink alcohol at all.

Sitting comfortably with friends, colleagues or family: This is what the end of the day looks like for many people.

Alcohol often flows into glasses in the form of wine, beer, gin or rum mixes in bars, beer gardens or on the patio at home.

Alcohol is a chemical compound called ethanol.

This has a euphoric effect and is classified as a drug.

Excessive consumption has fatal consequences: cirrhosis of the liver, alcohol addiction, nerve damage in the brain and even cancer.

The recommended maximum amounts of alcohol according to the German Center for Addiction Questions:

  • At least two alcohol-free days per week

  • For women: no more than twelve grams of alcohol per day, i.e. no more than a small glass of wine (0.125 liters)

  • For men: no more than 24 grams of alcohol per day, i.e. two small glasses of beer (0.6 liters)

Whether in the beer garden or at the festival: many people drink beer every day.

More than two tablespoons of wine a day is already associated with higher disease risk for younger women

you drink more?

You are not alone in this.

Alcohol is not only considered a socially accepted drug in Germany.

Many doctors and health associations regularly warn that this acceptance has serious consequences for the health system.

Because the treatment of addictions and their consequences is often lengthy and expensive.

New studies are showing the effects alcohol can have on the body.

An international team of researchers has now come to the conclusion that people under the age of 40 should avoid wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages altogether.

Younger women should drink no more than two tablespoons of wine or 100 milliliters of beer per day, the German Press Agency quoted the researchers who published their study in the journal The Lancet.

The recommendation for younger men is even more drastic: a maximum of one shot glass (40 ml) full of beer or two teaspoons of wine per day would have no negative consequences, they say.

The newly published study is based on the data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2020. The maximum values mentioned above (for women up to the age of 40: a maximum of two tablespoons of wine or 100 milliliters of beer per day; for men up to the age of 40: a maximum of one shot glass (40 ml) full of beer or two teaspoons of wine per day) had no negative impact on this series of health hazards.
