Venice Film Festival: Nina Hoss and Lars Eidinger will be shown at the Biennale

Great cinema at the Lido: Lars Eidinger can be seen in the opening film, Nina Hoss alongside double Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. The work of the recently imprisoned director Jafar Panahi celebrates its world premiere.

The film »TÁR« is one of a total of 23 films in competition for the Golden Lion in the northern Italian lagoon city.

Directed by the American Todd Fields, the two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett embodies a chief conductor.

Top German actress Nina Hoss can also be seen in the film alongside Blanchett.

Parts of »TÁR« were filmed in the Dresden Philharmonic.

The 79th edition of the Film Biennale runs from August 31st to September 10th.

It will open with the film »White Noise« by US director Noah Baumbach with Greta Gerwig, Adam Driver and Lars Eidinger.

It is based on a novel by Don DeLillo.

The president of the jury is the US actress Julianne Moore.

Five of the competition films come from Italy and five from France.

Penélope Cruz, who starred in Pedro Almodóvar's opening film »Madres paralelas« (»Parallel Mothers«) in Venice last year, stars in »L'Immensità« (»Infinity«) by Italian director Emanuele Crialese.

"Taxi Tehran" director Jafar Panahi, whose arrest was reported in Iran in mid-July, is present with "Khers Nist (No bears)", one of two Iranian films in the competition.

Romain Gavras, son of legendary director Constantin Costa-Gavras, is represented in Venice with the film »Athena« about social conflicts in a suburb.
