Anyone who has recovered from corona, and at this point it is almost the majority of people, knows that it takes time to recover from the disease.

Long covid affects a lot of people, in fact, some large studies in Denmark, England and the US show that 20-30 percent of people infected with corona experienced at least one symptom up to 12 months after infection. These symptoms include loss of sense of smell and taste, fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle aches, difficulty concentrating, memory disturbances, sleep disturbances and mental or physical exhaustion.

And if these symptoms are not disturbing enough on their own, two more are now added to this list - hair loss and low libido. A large British study of more than two million people found that people suffering from covid Long experienced over 60 symptoms, including sexual dysfunction and baldness.

The findings, published in the journal Nature Medicine, showed that people who contracted the corona virus reported 62 symptoms much more frequently 12 weeks after their initial infection than those who were not infected with the corona virus.

The team analyzed anonymised electronic health records of 2.4 million people in the UK during the study.

The data, collected between January 2020 and April 2021, included more than 480,000 corona patients and 1.9 million people with no indication of corona infection, after adjusting for other clinical diagnoses.

The researchers examined only patients who were not hospitalized, that is, not seriously ill.

Okay, that explains a few things.

The team of researchers identified three distinct categories of symptoms reported by people with persistent health problems after the coronavirus.

These groups included respiratory symptoms, mental health and cognitive problems, and a wider range of symptoms related to Corona.

While the most common symptoms included loss of the sense of smell, shortness of breath, chest pain and fever, the team also found patients with memory problems, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, hallucinations, limb swelling and apraxia (inability to perform familiar movements).

Along with discovering a wider range of symptoms, the research team also found key factors and behaviors that put people at increased risk of prolonged Covid.

The research shows that women, younger people, black people and mixed ethnic groups are at higher risk.

People from low socioeconomic backgrounds, smokers, people who are overweight or obese, and those with underlying medical conditions were also more likely to report persistent symptoms related to Corona after recovery.

It should be noted that an American study that included more than five million people and was published just last week showed that the risk of prolonged covid also increases with the number of repeated infections.

However, vaccination consistently reduces the risk of prolonged covid as well as severe illness, hospitalization, intensive care, and death.
