A chip manufacturer informs about an urgent recall.

There is a risk of nausea, drowsiness and headaches.

Update from Tuesday, July 26, 2022, 3:57 p.m.:

The food manufacturer Alnatura informs that a current recall is being expanded.

Another product and other best-before dates are now affected.

The reason for the recall is the detection of tropane alkaloids - a natural ingredient that can lead to health problems such as nausea, drowsiness and headaches.

The recall currently affects the varieties Alnatura Mais-Chips Natur, Alnatura Mais-Chips Paprika and Alnatura Maisrollchen with all best before dates up to and including December 7, 2022.

"The corresponding products have already been withdrawn from sale," says Alnatura.

Alnatura urges consumers not to eat the chips.

Chips recall: Alnatura warns of several types of corn chips

First report from Friday, July 1, 2022:

Kassel – In Germany, consumers have to expect a callback again and again.

The organic supermarket chain Alnatura has now recalled two different varieties.

Alnatura corn chips and Alnatura corn chips paprika with the best before dates August 9, 2022 to August 17, 2022 are affected. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the company based in Darmstadt.

The goods have already been withdrawn from sale.

Reason for the recall:

So-called tropane alkaloids were detected in a sample of the corn chip peppers.

These are natural ingredients from various plants such as henbane, thorn apple and deadly nightshade.

Tropane alkaloids can cause temporary health problems, such as nausea, drowsiness, and headaches.

Chips recalled: Customers receive replacements

As a precaution, anyone who bought the types of chips affected by the recall should no longer eat them.

Customers can return the products with the specified best-before dates to the respective supermarket branches.

There, consumers will receive a replacement for the returned chips.

Recall: Chocolate products are being recalled again and again

Meanwhile, Swiss chocolate maker Barry Callebaut has halted production at its factory in Belgium.

Experts had discovered salmonella in a batch, as the company announced.

Experts named the additive lecithin as the cause of the contamination.

This is used as an antioxidant, emulsifier or stabilizer in chocolate production.

According to their own statements, chocolate products from the well-known confectionery manufacturers Nestlé and Unilever are not affected by the possible salmonella contamination.

"According to the latest information we have received from our supplier, Barry Callebaut, the batches in question have not been delivered to Nestlé," Nestlé said.

The popular ice cream producer Häagen Dazs is currently recalling several types of ice cream.
