The investigations into three permanent campers from Berlin, who are said to have insulted Christian Drosten at a campsite, are expanding.

The police and public prosecutor's office confirmed that they were also investigating the violation of the Art Copyright Act.

The background is an incident at a campsite in the Mecklenburg Lake District in June.

According to the public prosecutor's office, two women and one man between the ages of 33 and 49 are accused.

The police are currently assuming that one of the three recognized the scientist on Saturday, June 25, while he was drunk and repeatedly insulted him.

The next day, Drosten and the group met again.

The scientist was insulted again and finally called the police.

Drosten was apparently denigrated as a "mass murderer" and "transhumanist".

The Berliners are said to have also photographed the prominent researcher.

Three cell phones were confiscated, according to investigators.

At least one of them shows a picture of Drosten on the campsite, according to the spokesman for the public prosecutor.

The police said that recordings of Drosten's family had apparently also been taken.

The devices are evaluated by the State Criminal Police Office.

Drosten filed a complaint after the incident, two of the Berliners filed counter-reports of insult.

The proceedings against Drosten have already been discontinued: According to the public prosecutor, he reacted spontaneously to previous insults.

Drosten and the press office of the Berlin Charité left an inquiry about the incident unanswered.

Shortly thereafter, he explained on Twitter that he had camped at the lake one night.

He would vacation at McPomm anytime, anytime.

In an interview with SPIEGEL in May 2020, Drosten already described that hate messages are now part of everyday life for him.

Such messages have "become normal, they are often completely crazy texts full of spelling mistakes, some writers are just pitiful, others are highly narcissistic, malicious and manipulative," said the virologist at the time.
