The day when the world ran out of all the natural resources it generates over the course of the year has come.

July 28 is the date of Earth Overshoot Day 2022, according to the calculations of the Global Footprint Network.

It falls another day earlier than 2021 and marks the largest ecological deficit since the world entered resource overexploitation in the early 1970s.

Humanity uses the equivalent of almost two planets, "1.75 Earths" and Italy is among the countries where the overshoot day arrives even before the global date: this year it was May 15th.

Abnormal heat waves, fires, droughts and increasingly frequent floods are all "symptoms" of this overfishing which has led to a decline in biodiversity, an excess of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and greater competition for energy and food resources, according to the organization.

The consequences are already visible, more than 3 billion people live in countries that produce less food than they consume and generate less income than the world average and therefore have an inadequate food capacity and a huge disadvantage in accessing food on global markets.
