Cherries are delicious on their own, in cakes or on waffles.

There is a help for removing the stones, with which it works in a few seconds.

Dortmund – Cherries are extremely tasty as a healthy snack, especially in summer.

A major disruptive factor, however, is the stone in the middle of the fruit.

Remove cherry pits: Loosen the stones with a glass bottle or hair clip

You don't necessarily need a special machine to remove the unwanted core.

Simple household items are often sufficient, as RUHR24 reports.

Both sweet and sour cherries can be used for what is probably the simplest trick.

And the materials needed could already be found in many households.

According to the woman

, to free the cherries from the stones,

only a bottle and a skewer, straw or similar stick are needed.

The glass variant is best suited as a bottle.

Pit cherries: bottle becomes a miracle weapon

The cherry must then be placed on the opening of the bottle with the stem of the fruit pointing into the jar.

Important: The opening should only be big enough to prevent the fruit from falling in (more life hacks at RUHR24).

Expert clarifies

Then you have to pierce the middle of the cherry with the chosen stick.

As soon as you meet resistance, you should reach the stone.

In this case, carefully apply pressure with a skewer or something similar until the core comes loose and plops into the bottle.

If you don't have a suitable bottle ready, you can use another trick with a hair clip or a paper clip.

Consumers who choose the paper clip must first bend it open.

A cork is also required.

The clip is now inserted into this closure so that the cork can serve as a handle.

Pit the cherries: Use a hair clip or knife to remove the stone

A bit of finesse is required to pit the cherries.

Because first the skin of the cherry has to be carefully pierced with the self-made tool.

If this has happened successfully, you have to lever out the stone of the fruit.

The bobby pin or paperclip serves as a kind of tweezers or shovel to pry out the core.

Probably the most radical method is to take a sharp knife and use it to cut up the cherries one by one.

This option offers a great advantage: Because a possible worm infestation can be detected directly and lovers of the fruit do not run the risk of accidentally eating possible pests of the plant, such as worms.

In principle, the Gartenjournal

portal advises sorting

and thoroughly preparing the cherries before pitting them.

It is important to ensure that the cherry is in the best possible condition.

Otherwise, especially in the summer heat, there is a high risk that the fruit will quickly develop rotten spots.

The selected cherries should then be thoroughly washed and dried.

Depending on the method, the stem should also be removed.

Cherry stone swallowed: great danger for children

Simply swallowing the stone of the fruit and eating it poses a great danger, especially for children. A 9-year-old boy from North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, was paralyzed on one side after swallowing a cherry stone because the unwanted inner workings of the fruit had caused an appendix rupture.

It is better to keep the cherry stones.

Not only can the stones be used to grow new plants, they are also useful, for example, as a filling for cherry pit pillows.

Tensions can then be relieved with the help of the pillow heated in the microwave.
