2022-07-31T13:16:35.293Z

Even before the first episode aired, the spin-off series of "Game of Thrones" is already arousing curiosity all over the world • "Truth or Dare" will try to reproduce the success of the first season • Steve Carell continues his travels in the world of television, and Netflix brings to the screen one of the most beloved graphic novels • "Serial Recommender" in the monthly series guide

As in every month, August 2022 will also be one in which quite a few exciting series will appear - and this month too it seems that we will have to choose between some of the most intriguing of them.

To make it easier for you, here are some recommendations for some series, some of which will appear in our lives for the first time and some of which return in new seasons.

Who knows, we might have found your new addiction for the rest of the summer.

August 5

Sandman

The series of graphic novels by the famous fantasy creator Neil Gaiman finally gets to reach the screen, after many years in which many tried to adapt them to the cinema.

Since that didn't work, Netflix obtained the rights to create a series based on the mythological novels, and now, after such a long wait, its many fans will finally be able to watch the character of Dream get her screen time.

The series, the cost of its first season is estimated at about 165 million dollars, follows a dream (also known as Morpheus, the King of Dreams and the Sandman), one of seven powerful and infinite beings that control different parts of existence.

After he manages to escape from the place where he was imprisoned, Sandman (played by the British Tom Sturridge) plans to fix the kingdom of dreams, and along the way tries to correct the mistakes he made during his eternal existence.

Truth or Dare - Season 3

The coming-of-age comedy created by Mindy Kling ("The Office," "Mindy") was one of the freshest series to hit the screen when it debuted in 2020, but its second season, which aired last year, didn't exactly create the same buzz.

Its new season will try to reproduce the success of the beginning.

Also in the new season, Truth or Dare will follow Devi (played by the excellent Maitrey Ramakrishnan), who, befitting the fact that she is a teenager, will once again have to deal with all the pressures that accompany adolescence - from love and studies to the pressure from her traditional family.

And in the meantime, the fans are mainly asking themselves if the relationship between Devi and Paxton will continue - or is it a short-lived youthful love?

their own league

Penny Marshall's beloved 1992 film was a particularly pleasant surprise, successfully combining comedy and sports drama.

Back then, the film starred big and shiny names such as Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and even Madonna, and now, almost 30 years after it was released, it is being remade for television.

It is worth ignoring the failed attempt to adapt the film for the small screen in 1993 and give it a new chance, since behind this version stand impressive names such as Abby Jacobson (creator and star of "Broad City", who will also be the main actress in the series) and Will Graham, who was The showrunner of the series "Mozart in the Jungle".

Just like the movie, the series will follow a women's baseball team that operates during World War II, but it is also expected to tell the story of other female players who were active during that time.

You will find two other intriguing names in the series: Darcy Carden (who superbly portrayed Janet in "The Good Place") and Nick Offerman (forever Ron Swanson from "Gardens and Landscape Department").

August 17

Shay-Hulk: A lawyer in the legal service

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, unite!

About a year and a half after the company broke into television with the successful "Wanda Vision", and here comes another character to the expanding canon of the beloved superheroes.

The series follows lawyer Jennifer Walters (Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany for her role in "Orphan Black"), who everyone knows about her famous cousin, Bruce Banner, who is the Green Giant.

During the series, as it was in the comics, she receives the powers of her relative, but unlike him, she manages to switch between the new identity inside her and her own identity.

In "Marvel" the series is defined as a legal comedy, and the slave whose creator, Jessica Gao, is especially known for her comedic work (she wrote for "Rick and Morty", "Silicon Valley" and "Robot Chicken"), contributes to the high expectations of her.

What is certain is that, after the series of "Marvel" series in question, "She-Hulk" will also receive crazy buzz - but the burden of proof is on her, and her alone.

August 19

Echoes

A new and intriguing Netflix mini-series, which follows identical twins (doubled by Michelle Monaghan from "True Detective" and "The Road") who replace each other in their lives without informing those around them.

When one of them goes missing, their lives start to go wrong.

The creator of the thriller, Vanessa Gazie, is not a very experienced name, but the fact that she was able to attract the acclaimed Monahan and Matt Bomer (that's Neil Capri from "White Collar") to the project certainly adds some merits to the series.

Will the seven episodes live up to expectations?

We will wait and see.

August 21

Dragon House

More than three years have passed since we said goodbye to "Game of Thrones", in a season that was very controversial in its level.

However, the love for the series around the world is still huge - that's why HBO tried to create several series that would be related to the universe that George R.

R.

Martin created with his book "Song of Fire and Ice".

After all the efforts, the hand of "Dragon House" came out on top - and at a cost of about 150 million dollars, it comes with a huge buzz around it, even before it aired even one episode.

Just like its mother series, "Dragon House" will also follow the many power struggles and relationships (and most likely also betrayals) between the characters that will lead it.

It takes place during the reign of King Viserys Targaryen I, about 200 years before the events of "Game of Thrones", and will focus on the events that led to the "Dance of Dragons" - the civil war that took place over the throne and split the kingdom.

Martin has already said that he was very enthusiastic about the parts he saw of the spin-off series, which is expected to include quite a few dragons and battles, probably in order to justify the huge budget behind it - between 150 and 200 million dollars for the entire season.

August 30

Patient

Steve Carell broke into our lives with "The Office", one of the best comedies of the current millennium, and since then he has managed to become a movie star.

Despite this, he returned to the small screen in recent years with another comedy ("Space Force", which was recently canceled) and a serious drama ("The Morning Show", for which he was nominated for an Emmy) - and now he participates in the new mini-series of the creator of "The Americans".

Carl plays Alexander in it, a psychologist who is imprisoned by one of his patients, a serial killer (Donal Gleeson) and forced to treat him.

As Alexander reluctantly tries to treat the unorthodox patient thrust upon him, he is forced to face his own demons.

August 31

Andor

As Disney has done with series from the "Marvel" cinematic universe, so it is doing with series from the universe of "Star Wars" films - and now it is the turn of Cassian Andor, an intelligence officer of the Rebel Alliance who appeared in one of the main roles in "Rogue One", which was a film that won Not a bad critical and commercial success, but not one that made the character one of the most talked about in the universe of the series.

After "The Mandalorian", "The Book of Boba Fett" and "Obi Wan Kenobi", Disney will hope that "Endor" will also have a similar success.

Her desire to do so probably explains the fact that "One Rogue" screenwriter, Tony Gilroy ("Michael Clayton"), is also the one who created the series - after all, who knows the character better than the one who created it?

Diego Luna will return to the character of Endor in this series as well, alongside Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, who played the rebel Sue Guerrera in the original film) and Stellan Skarsgård.

And don't worry, you should watch it: the series was pre-ordered for at least two seasons, so there is something to look forward to.
