There is good news for many trainees and students in August 2022: There is more money for student loans.

But what exactly is changing?

Berlin – Some things will change in August 2022. Among the innovations are also those that students and trainees could be happy about: They relate to student loans.

There are several adjustments to the training support that will take effect in August.

For many people, especially young people, there will be more money in the future, but the chances of financial support also increase in old age.

This is more than convenient, especially in times of the gas crisis and inflation in Germany.

Our partner Kreiszeitung

has compiled exactly what is changing and how much more is going into the account

Bafög 2022: This is new in August - more money for students and trainees and a new age limit

There will be some changes to the Bafög 2022 in August - and this time it's good news for students and trainees, because: There's more money.

The maximum subsidy amount under the Federal Training Subsidy Act, Bafög for short, is increasing: from August it will then be 934 euros instead of the previous 861 euros.

The innovations are part of the Bafög reform 2022 of the traffic light coalition under Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

Although the funding is increasing, the cost of living is also increasing massively in many areas.

The increase in the maximum rate is therefore not a second too early for many of those affected - and is eaten up by inflation before it has been paid out.

Students who receive student loans have to be meticulous about their expenses.

From August, the situation for those affected should ease somewhat thanks to an increase in funding.

In addition to the raised maximum funding amount, another number will also be raised;

this is about the age of the recipient: Up to now, the maximum age was 30 years.

With the change in August 2022, people who are older can also be entitled to the grant: If they have not exceeded the age of 45 at the beginning of the eligible training, there is now the opportunity to submit an application.

The maximum age was raised by 15 years.

This is new in August when applying for student loans: New asset limits and tax exemptions

Another new application for Bafög in August is that the potential recipients are subject to new asset limits or tax exemptions.

For example, the allowances from parental income have been increased by a total of 20.75 percent: in future, 2,415 euros of the parents' income will not be taken into account.

Politicians are planning further reforms in the long term.

However, there are changes not only to the allowances from parental income, but also to the asset limit.

From August, applicants may own more assets than before.

The limit is 15,000 euros for people under 30 years old and 45,000 euros for people 30 and over.

Applicants can theoretically receive Bafög up to these upper limits.

There are also changes in August in many other areas - for example in employment contracts.

Applying for student loans should be simplified: New in August 2022 – digital applications will be sufficient in the future

What is also new in August 2022 is that the application process should be significantly simplified in one crucial point: it should be possible to do it completely digitally in the future.

Previously, the documents had to be signed and submitted in paper form to the relevant office.

Applying for student loans should now be easier.

In the future, the purely digital application should be sufficient.

As the

Tagesschau

writes, this does not necessarily mean faster processing.

In many of the offices concerned there is still a lack of staff to process the applications submitted.

So one thing doesn't change: long waiting times.
